Swine flu is one of the most feared contagious diseases in the world today. It is a respiratory infection caused by a virus called influenza A or H1N1. The virus includesHaemagglutin  and Neuraminidase.

Haemagglutin causes red blood cell to clump together and bond the virus to the infected cell. And Neuraminidase assists to move the virus particles through the infected cell and help in growing from the host cell.

When this virus enters into the human body through the mouth or nose, It moves into the lungs and attacks the lung cell, infecting cells and replicating itself inside the cell until the cell dies. And when too many cells are destroyed, the patient will die.

The swine flu was first detected in 2009 in Mexico  and hastily spread around the globe taking  many lives. According to one particular record, the total global death from the 2009 outbreak was more than 284000

How to Protect from swine flu

The swine flu in human is very much transmittable during the first five days of sickness. It can be transmitted from person to person through breath, cough and sneeze. It can also be affected when a person touches a virus and then touches their own face, nose or mouth.

But there always a way to protect yourself from this contagious disease.

  1. Avoid coming close to a person who have a respiratory illness such as cold or flu
  2. Don’t touch your eyes, nose and mouth without washing your hand thoroughly with Sanitizer or soap
  3. Drink a lot of water and keep yourself hydrated
  4. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough
  5. Avoid handshake, It’s possible that you get contact with the germs from the infected person
  6. Consider Wearing a special mask when you go out, There is a chance of transmitting the diseases as the virus travels through the air in the form of droplet when someone cough or sneeze with this disease.
  7. If you want to visit a swine flu patient then maintain at least six feet distance from the patient

Who are the most Vulnerable people?

The most vulnerable people of getting swine flu are a weakened immune system, pregnant women, People with asthma, obesity, heart diseases.  According to the NDTV report, Since 1st Jan. 2015 till 15 Feb. the outbreak of swine flu in India has soared to 8423 and total death of 596.
