Kidney Failure Treatment

Patient with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) has only two options, either dialysis or transplantation

These options are done when your kidney can no longer handle your body’s requirement, includes-

  • Removal of waste product from the body
  • Regulate of Red blood cell production
  • Release hormones that regulate blood pressure
  • Balance the body fluid and
  • Acidity regulation.

Kidney transplantation

A kidney transplant is a procedure where a healthy kidney of a donor is placed into a recipient body.

A kidney may come from a living-donor( mostly come from immediate family members) or deceased-donor who have signed on organ donor card before their death.

When the kidney is transplanted into a new body, the patient is required to take a medication to prevent rejection of the new organ.

Sometimes a transplants kidney is rejected when your body immune system recognizes foreign organ in your body.

Therefore, it is necessary to take drugs for the rest of your life to allow the new organ in your body.

Dialysis

There are two types of dialysis available-

Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis

Hemodialysis dialysis

Patient receiving dialysis Hemodialysis dialysis

The Hemodialysis dialysis procedure uses an artificial kidney called hemodialyzer.

In this system, it removes your waste product and extra chemicals through a special filter from outside of your body.

And when your blood cleans, it then returns to your body through the fibres.

Peritoneal dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis pictureIn Peritoneal dialysis, a soft small tube called a catheter is permanently placed (or as long as you are using this form of dialysis) inside the abdomen cavity as a filter by surgeries.

Through the tube, the dialysate is introduced and the waste fluid is fleshed out.

The process of filling the solution into your abdomen could take about 30 to 40 minutes and the period of dialyzing the solution or dwell time takes about 4 to 6 hours.

This treatment  can be treated mostly everywhere, your home, your workplace or while travelling.

In this system, care should be taken to avoid the infection. Before each infusion, the tube or catheter must be thoroughly cleaned to avoid the infection from bacteria to the abdomen.

By doing these treatments, it  maintained your internal body in stable balance through a function called diffusion (waste removal) and ultrafiltration (fluid removal)
